What are the characters of PostPet
In PostPet 1.X (this includes 1.12, 1.2, etc), the four pets you can choose from are:
- Momo, the Pink Teddy Bear
- Furo, the Mixed-breed Cat
- Mippi, the Miniature Rabbit
- Sumiko, the Tortoise
... as well as two other "pets" that can only be obtained by "hacking" into the PostPetConfig.ppc
file of your PostPet.

Although every pet is unique, depending on its parameters (Condition, Style, Happiness, and
Intelligence, which are determined when you first run the PostPet Set-up Program and choose your
pet... You may wish to try repeatedly, to get a smarter or happier pet!), it may have certain
tendencies depending on what kind of pet it is.
Momo the Pink Teddy Bear
"Age: 3 to 10 years old, in human years
A teddy bear. Wash it from time to time.
Easy to take care of, easy to raise; relatively easy to keep happy, and surprisingly long-lived.
(Good for people who like cute things?)"
In my experience, the PostPet Teddy Bear is the classic archetype of "dumb, but sweet".
It often writes e-mails to you that are full of a kind of heart-warming innocence...
However, I personally am not a big fan of the Teddy Bear; partially because I feel it is
over-marketed, and partially because I dislike how calculatedly cute it seems. I can just
imagine Momo the PostPet Teddy Bear primping in front of its mirror at home, thinking about
how adorable it is... Grrrr...
Sumiko the Tortoise
"Age: 20 to 92 years old, in human years
Possesses both the wisdom of old age and a tough, hardy shell.
Writes you mail relatively often.
Waits a long time at your friend's house before giving up on delivering mail.
The longest-lived of all 8 pets.
(Good for mature people with generous, patient hearts?)"
The PostPet Tortoise is a sweet one, and will, indeed, write you neat letters relatively
often.
Unfortunately, it seems that while its intelligence and condition tend to be high,
it is relatively difficult to give it a high default style parameter. You may need to wash it
a lot; it will probably get dirty very easily!
Mippi the Miniature Rabbit
"Age: 4 to 14 years old, in human years
Gets lonesome easily. Raise it with love.
Perhaps because it is very intuitive, it is a whiz at finding treasures.
(Good for treasure-maniacs?)"
The PostPet Bunny is, like the Bear, one of the less-intelligent pets. It will
write letters, if not as frequently as some other pets, and will do many cute actions
on-screen like cringe when you approach (?!).
However, of the 4 original PostPets, the Bunny has the second-shortest life...
Furo the Mixed-Breed Cat
"Age: 8 to 18 years old, in human years
A capricious cat.
It returns from delivery quickly, so you can send it on errands several times a day... but it's
hard to raise its happiness, so please be careful.
Writes mail more often than any other pet.
(Good for people who like to care for others?)"
Despite the many rumours I hear about how the Postpet Cat runs away easily, or how it hates
being washed, I haven't personally had any of my PostPet cats (Kaylee, BabyKay, Kay, or Kayla)
run away from me.
However, my sister did have her PostPet cat run away from home repeatedly, before leaving
forever. Each time, he left her a note before leaving the house again, so possibly the cat was
trying to give her a second chance?
The cat's Intelligence and Style default parameters are quite high to begin with; the challenge
is making it happy and in good condition, without making it a moron.
Ushe the Pouched Penguin
"Age: 18 to 30 years old, in human years
A rather clever penguin that secretly lives in Australia, unknown to all.
Perhaps because it lives in a chilly environment, it has a cool, unemotional personality.
Both males and females have pouches on their tummy, to incubate the eggs... but since it doesn't
have anything to incubate at present, it just keeps its mail in there.
(Good for people with cool personalities?)"
Despite what the description might lead you to believe, this penguin is no cold fish.
The e-mails it writes to you are full of humour and pop-culture references; my own penguin
has occasionally done impressions of popular anime characters in its e-mails!
Jinpachi the Big Mouse/Big Mouth Hamster
"Age: 10 to 14 years old, in human years
A hamster.
The personality difference between the males and females is extreme.
Doesn't run away much, but spends a lot of time sleeping, so it may not be able to deliver mail
for you very often.
The shortest-lived of all the pets, so be careful!
(Good for people who can forgive slackers?)"
This Hamster's name is tough to translate, since in Japanese there is no "th" or "se"
sound; they both get turned into the Japanese sound "su", which could be either of those!
Whether a Big Mouse or a Big Mouth, the Hamster can be a handful!
Jinpachi, my first Hamster
was very violent to begin with; she kept attacking and drop-kicking her momo doll across the
room!
Although I've only had a female hamster, so far they tend to be very well-behaved and polite
in their e-mails, and downright sweet. In one e-mail, my hamster Kellogg told me that
she was trying to read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, so that she could be a better
conversationalist with me!
John the Dog
"Age: 14 to 20 in human years
A dog like any other dog.
Always has his tongue sticking out.
Wants very much to please you, and lives to make people laugh.
But maybe he's just lonesome at heart...
(Good for people who can forgive bad jokes?)"
"John" is, for some reason, a stereotypical doggy name in Japan, like "Bowser" or "Poochie"
in English.
The Dog does, indeed, write humourous e-mails.
... Um. That's about all I have to say about the dog, really.
Shingo the Mystery Mechanoid
"Age: Impossible to compare to human years
For some reason, this machine has possessed a will of its own, and can move using
a mysterious power, despite being unplugged.
Usually a computer, but occasionally transforms.
(Good for mechanically-inclined people?)"
The Mystery Machine's e-mails are downright weird. More cannot be said without giving away
the entire content. For some reason, it is almost impossible to get its parameters above 50.
They do lots of neat things, like exploding when washed (!) and transforming into an airplane!
There's also a trick that makes it say "Hello" on its monitor/screen, but I'm not sure how it works...
